Windsor Fava Bean

$3.00

Vicia Faba

Min Qty: 30 seeds

Description: Classic heirloom listed in 1863. Popular food in ancient Rome. Highest protein content of any bean, high in fiber and iron. All parts of the fava bean are edible and many people enjoy the leaves the same way as spinach. Very hardy plant that tolerates frost but dislikes hot weather. Great fresh, dried or made into a hummus!

Planting Instructions: 65-85 days. Plant early in the spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow seeds in blocks 3-4" apart and 2" deep in rows 12" apart. Prefers cool, wet weather, needs 2-1/2 to 3 months of cooler weather. Plants grow up to 5' high on thick, straight stalks and may flop over in windy weather. To help support them, stake around the plant bed and run string around the plants.
