Physalis philadelphica
Min Qty: 0.5 g
Description: Very prolific and great producer of large fruit. A mainstay of Mexican cuisine, can be eaten fresh or roasted to bring out its tart flavor; great for salsa verde.
Planting Instructions: 83 days. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Plant seeds in flats or peat pots 1/4-1/2" deep in a sterile potting mix. Keep warm, above 70F and evenly moist until germination in 7-10 days. Transplant outdoors 3-4' apart after the danger of frost has passed and plants are hardened off. Choose a location with rich, fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of sun. Tomatoes can be buried deep, up their stems, where they'll grow additional roots. Prefers even watering. Plants grow to 4', so expect to provide support.
