Soldier Dry Bean

$3.00

Phaseolus vulgaris

Min Qty: 60 Seeds

Description: Popular New England bean, known for baked bean suppers and passed from generation to generation. White beans with dark eye that looks somewhat like a toy soldier. 18" high plants tolerate drought, are easy to grow and do well in cooler climates.

Planting Instructions: 90 days. Plant seeds 1-1/2" deep 2-3" apart in well-drained soil after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Plant in a sunny location in rows 18-36" apart. Thin seedlings to 4-6". Water well at first then regularly as the plant matures. Let beans fully dry for harvest. If a frost is expected, pull up the whole plant, roots and all, and hang it upside down to allow the drying process to continue. They're good and dry when the beans rattle inside the pods.
