Brassica oleracea
Min Qty: 4 g
Description: Originally from England in the early 1800s, and brought to America around mid-century, the early variety produces smaller heads, 2-3 pounds each, but a very healthy yield. The tight heads and pointy shape allow tight spacing. Good choice for container gardening.
Planting Instructions: 63 days. Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4-1/2" deep into a starting mix. Keep evenly moist until germination. Provide plenty of light after the seedlings emerge. Transplant into well-worked soil after the danger of frost has passed. Space plants about 12" apart in rows 18-36" apart in a location that gets plenty of sun. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and even out temperature extremes. Direct seed in mid-summer for a fall harvest.
