    Cucurbita pepo

    Min Qty: 60 seeds

Description:  Not really black, but a very dark green fruit that is popular in stir fries, baked, boiled, or stored frozen. Large yields, best when picked around 6" long.

Planting Instructions:   50 days.  Can be started indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost and transplanted after hardening off and the danger of frost has passed.  Alternately, direct seed after danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed; sow seeds 1" deep, in loose, rich soil in rows, plant seeds 4-6" apart in rows 6' apart.  Thin seedlings to 2-3' when they have 2 sets of leaves.  For a fall harvest, start another crop by mid-summer.  Squash are generally heavy feeders, so fertilize as they grow to improve your harvest.  Harvest fruit before it gets too large as it shuts production down.
